PMB or PO Box; What’s the Difference?

You may have heard about our mailbox rental service – it’s a convenient way to receive both mail and packages. But what exactly is a Private Mailbox? And how is it different from a P.O. Box? While both options are safe and secure ways to receive your mail, the services that come with each are not quite the same.

Let’s start with P.O. Boxes. P.O. Boxes are mailboxes available, for a fee, at United States Post Offices. They accept mail and can receive packages sent with Post Office (USPS) services. However, the address for a P.O. Box is not a street address.  Additionally, private carriers, such as FedEx or UPS, are not authorized to deliver to P.O. Boxes.

For those who are looking for a little bit more out of a mail receiver, a Private Mailbox, or PMB, offers more services. Not only can we accept mail for a PMB, we can accept packages from the Post Office, FedEx, UPS, DHL, and even Freight deliveries!

When packages are delivered you will receive an e-mail notification, and 24-hour access to your mailbox is also available.  We even have an add-on service that will e-mail you a notification every time you receive mail.

Can’t stop in to pick up your mail? We also offer mail forwarding services and virtual mailboxes.

Using one of our PMBs also allows you to have a commercial street address for your mailbox, which is critical for small businesses looking to project a professional image. An example of an address for one of our PMBs is;

(Name) 1465 Woodbury Ave PMB XXX Portsmouth NH 03801

We offer 3 sizes of mailboxes; small, medium, and large. Sizes are dependent on how much mail you expect to receive and how often you plan on picking up your mail.

Not only do we have multiple box sizes available for rent, we also offer incentives and bonuses depending on your rental or renewal period. Opening or renewing for 6 months gets you 1 extra month of rent for free. Opening or renewing for 12 months gets you 2 free additional months.

Still interested in a private mailbox, but not sure which option will work best for you? Feel free to e-mail us at or call the store and speak to one of our friendly staff! You can also check out our FAQ for more information.
